I will never forget that day in 2001, September 11. It was around 3:15pm and I was in my office working. My radio was on as it always is and there was a sudden “interruption” in the program to bring an urgent and disturbing news report that the twin towers had been hit by a plane. And not long after that the second plane hit. I was shocked and scared and speechless all at the same time. I ran out into the passage and asked if anyone else had heard what had happened and before long the whole building was buzzing with the news.
I live in South Africa, and I cried as I watched the horror unfolding before me on the tv. My heart broke for all those people who were in the planes and the towers. I felt so useless and helpless and I wished I could do something for someone – anything… the images of that day will forever be imprinted on my memory. And although I could never do anything then for those people I have an opportunity to do something now. 2996 has got a website where you can sign up to pay tribute to the victims from that day.
And today I am remembering Nasima H. Simjee, age 38, a resident of New York NY who died in the World Trade Center.
May the world NEVER forget the people who died that terrible day.

I am so proud to be part of this project with people like you.
By remembering each one, and praying for their families we gain humanity and fight insanity.
It was a very distressing time. I owned my bridal shop at the time just 3 hours west of NYC. One thing I'll never forget is how the blue sky remained untainted by any white jet streams for weeks. It was as if the blue of God's grace hovered over the nation and no evil element was able to disrupt our vision of Him. Even the clouds obeyed Him.
People have short memories and never is a loooong time.
David - I am proud to be a part of this too, I have seen MANY blogs with tributes today, it is really a special way to remember these people and their families.
Debra God is good and His mercy endures forever!
Kyk - Sad but true. But I somehow feel this is one day that will not easily be forgotten...
I agree Spookie...this day will not be forgotten by most for a very long time.
What's a bit more disturbing is at times it seems some do forget a day 2000 years ago when a Savior perished.
Any one pointless death, particularly those of innocent lives in the pursuit of peace, is tragic. Thoughts of love and peace to you and those you love, today and every day. xox
Thank you for your wonderful post.
Nice Post Spooks!
Oh wow, I saw the 2996 site today and saw that people could pay tribute to an individual. When I got there I saw the whole list of victims and their supporters beside them. It's really nice to see that you got your name onto that list :)
It was a horrid day - I remember it all to well, we live about half an hour outside of the City and we could just see the grey cloud over the sky - we were baie bung I tell you!!
Kim - Yes, that is the saddest thing. But it is something I cannot forget...
Dawn - So true Dwan, so true lots of love to you and yours too.
Myutopia - Glad you liked it.
NMOTB - Thank you.
Gareth - It feels good to, even though I had a teeny tiny part in paying tribute to one life lost that day, it still feels good to have done something.
Tammy - I can only try to imagine the fear you must have experienced that day. I am on the other side of the world and I was terrified and horrified.
